Want to play Dungeons & Dragons in Alphen aan den Rijn?
Want to play Dungeons & Dragons in Alphen aan den Rijn, but no one in your group has the time or energy to prepare everything? Or are you curious about D&D, but not really sure where to start? Then StoryForgers is the right place for you.
We help groups in Alphen aan den Rijn and the surrounding area play D&D and other tabletop RPGs in a way that is accessible, fun, and well guided. We do this for groups of friends, families, companies, schools, libraries, youth organisations, and much more. Sometimes a group just wants a fun one-time session. Sometimes someone is looking for an original outing. Sometimes there has been a plan for years to “try D&D one day.” And sometimes there are experienced players who would finally like to sit down at the table again without having to be the Dungeon Master themselves.
Whatever the reason, we make sure the adventure really gets going.
D&D in Alphen aan den Rijn is popular, and we completely get why
Dungeons & Dragons has long stopped being something for a tiny niche. More and more people are discovering how much fun it is to experience a story together, make choices, solve problems, and fully immerse themselves in a fantasy world. And in a town like Alphen aan den Rijn, that works incredibly well.
You have groups of friends here looking for something more original than a standard game night. You have companies who want something different from bowling or drinks. You have schools, libraries, and organisations looking for creative activities where teamwork, imagination, and storytelling take centre stage. And you have beginners who are curious, but do not want to open a rulebook with hundreds of pages right away.
That is exactly where StoryForgers shines. We make D&D accessible without making it boring or shallow. Beginners can jump right in, while experienced players still get plenty of depth, tension, and freedom to really get immersed.
We have already played and hosted workshops in Alphen aan den Rijn
For us, Alphen aan den Rijn is not just a place name we casually drop onto a page. We have already played and hosted workshops here, including at the official library in Alphen aan den Rijn during a themed event celebrating 50 years of Dungeons & Dragons. Moments like that fit perfectly with what we do: getting people excited, welcoming new players, and showing that tabletop roleplaying does not have to be complicated or closed off.
That is also how we prefer to work. Not elitist, not vague, not as if you have to be “a real nerd” before you are allowed to join. Just good play, clear guidance, and room for fun, creativity, and surprise.
What exactly is StoryForgers?
StoryForgers is for people who want to hire a Dungeon Master for a strong, well-guided session. That can be a single one-shot, but also a longer campaign, a corporate event, a workshop, a school session, or another activity tailored to your group.
We play all across the Netherlands, including in Alphen aan den Rijn, and we tailor sessions to the group sitting in front of us. That means we do not just run a standard little story and call it a day. We look at who you are, what you are looking for, and how much experience you have. Are you complete beginners? Then we keep things calm, accessible, and easy to follow. Are you more experienced players looking for deeper roleplay, tougher choices, or your own idea for a campaign? Then we build on that.
Our Dungeon Masters do not just guide the game, they also guide the atmosphere at the table. That may sound obvious, but that is often exactly where the difference lies. A good session is not just about knowing the rules. It is also about timing, energy, improvisation, clarity, and sensing what a group needs.
D&D is perfect for beginners in Alphen aan den Rijn
Maybe you have wanted to try D&D for a while, but you think it sounds difficult. We hear that a lot. Luckily, in practice it is usually much easier than people expect, especially when you start with a good Dungeon Master.
Our one-shots are especially well suited for beginners. In just a few hours, you get a complete D&D experience: adventure, characters, choices, tension, teamwork, and of course the necessary chaos when players decide to do something completely unexpected. We explain the basic rules, bring materials, and make sure you do not have to figure everything out on your own first.
That makes it ideal for many groups in Alphen aan den Rijn. You do not need to buy books, build character sheets, or watch endless tutorials first. You can simply sit down at the table with your group and start.
Also great for experienced players
StoryForgers is not only interesting for new players. Experienced players often know better than anyone how difficult it can be to plan a good session. Someone has to prepare, someone has to host, someone has to remember the rules and NPCs, someone has to keep the whole thing moving if the energy drops. And usually all of that ends up with the same person.
By hiring a professional Dungeon Master, the whole group gets to just be players again. For experienced groups, we are happy to add extra layers: more room for roleplay, stronger storylines, custom work, visual aids, specific requests, and campaigns that fit what the group actually wants to play.
So even if you have been playing in Alphen aan den Rijn for a while, but want something fresh or well organised, we can offer a lot.
For groups of friends, families, birthdays, and special occasions
A D&D session is a surprisingly good idea for all kinds of social occasions. Think of a birthday, a bachelor party, a family day, or just an evening with friends where you want to do something different from going out for dinner or watching films.
The great thing about a tabletop RPG is that you experience something together. Not passively, but actively. You make choices, laugh at bad plans, negotiate with strange characters, escape dangerous situations, and create memories that people keep bringing up afterwards. Everyone contributes something, even when people are very different. One person slips easily into character, another is great at strategy, and someone else comes up with genius or completely ridiculous solutions. That mix is exactly what makes it fun.
For groups in Alphen aan den Rijn looking for an original outing, that is a really nice combination: creative, social, exciting, and surprisingly accessible.
D&D as a corporate event in Alphen aan den Rijn
Looking for a corporate event in Alphen aan den Rijn that does not feel like forced “fun teamwork”? Then D&D is a surprisingly strong option.
A good session gets people working together without it feeling forced. You have to make decisions together, share information, come up with plans, deal with unexpected situations, and give each other room to contribute. That naturally brings out skills like communication, creativity, problem-solving, and leadership.
That makes D&D not just fun, but genuinely valuable for teams. At the same time, it remains a fun experience first and foremost. You do not need to be an actor, a fantasy expert, or a hardcore gamer. In fact, the people who least expect it often end up getting completely pulled into the adventure.
StoryForgers also plays for companies and organisations, and that is exactly why it works so well: we make sure the game fits the group and the setting. Are you playing with colleagues who do not know each other well yet? Then we keep it accessible and light. Are you looking for more depth or team dynamics? Then we guide it more deliberately in that direction.
Also for schools, libraries, youth work, and educational sessions
D&D and other tabletop RPGs are also incredibly well suited to educational and social settings. They encourage language, social interaction, teamwork, improvisation, creative thinking, and stepping into other perspectives. That is why we do not just play for private groups and companies, but also for schools, libraries, youth organisations, and other institutions.
We have experience with workshops and sessions for younger players, and with groups that benefit from extra guidance, calm, clarity, or customisation. Tabletop roleplaying can also be especially valuable for neurodivergent players or young people who need a bit more support, as long as it is well guided and adapted to the group.
That is why we prefer not to look only at “how many players are there?”, but also at what kind of people are sitting at the table and what they need in order to have a good experience.
Where can you play in Alphen aan den Rijn?
That mostly depends on what kind of group you have and what is practical. In many cases, we simply play at someone’s home or at a location you arrange yourselves. That often works very well, as long as there is enough peace and everyone can sit comfortably at the table.
For a company or organisation, that could be at the office, in a meeting room, at school, or in another suitable space. Do you not have a good location yourself? We are happy to think along with you. Sometimes there is a hospitality venue with a quiet private room, sometimes a cultural venue is a better fit, and sometimes home is simply the nicest option.
For Alphen aan den Rijn and the surrounding area, it also makes sense not to look only at the town itself, but at the wider region as well. We also play for groups from Boskoop, Hazerswoude-Dorp, Hazerswoude-Rijndijk, Koudekerk aan den Rijn, Zwammerdam, and nearby places. For many people in the region, Alphen is the natural central point anyway.
Not just Dungeons & Dragons
D&D is still the most recognisable name, and for many groups it is also the best first step. That is why it is the main focus on this page. But it is definitely not the only system people are interested in.
We are seeing more and more people become curious about other tabletop RPGs as well (e.g. Daggerheart, Call of Cthulhu, Warhammer). Some groups want something that is quicker to learn. Others are looking for more horror, more mystery, more tactics, or a different kind of atmosphere than classic fantasy. StoryForgers is getting more and more involved in that, and our Dungeon Masters genuinely enjoy opening up that broader world of tabletop RPGs even further.
So if you want to play not only D&D in Alphen aan den Rijn, but are also curious about other roleplaying systems, feel free to ask. D&D remains the most logical entry point for many groups, but we are always happy to help think about what fits best.
Why a professional Dungeon Master makes the difference
A lot of people think, “Could we not just start by ourselves?” Of course you can. And if you already have someone in your group who enjoys preparing, learning rules, and leading the story, that is great.
But in practice, many groups quickly notice why it is so nice to bring in a professional DM. You are not just paying for rules knowledge. You are bringing in someone who keeps the pace moving, helps new players feel comfortable, creates atmosphere, improvises when you completely derail the plan, and makes sure everyone at the table stays involved.
That is especially valuable if: - you are beginners; - nobody feels like preparing everything themselves; - it is a special occasion, like a birthday or outing; - the group is very mixed in experience or age; - you want it to run smoothly and feel well organised.
A good Dungeon Master makes sure you can focus on the best part: playing, discovering, making plans, failing, winning, and living through stories you will not easily forget.

Frequently asked questions about playing D&D in Alphen aan den Rijn
Can we play D&D in Alphen aan den Rijn as complete beginners?
Yes, absolutely. Our one-shots are perfect for beginners. We explain the basic rules, bring materials, and make sure you can start playing right away without any prior knowledge.
How long does a D&D session last?
A one-shot usually lasts around 4 hours. Campaign sessions often last 3 to 4 hours. If a slightly different format suits your group better, we can also think along with you about that.
How many players can join?
Per Dungeon Master, we usually play with 1 to 6 players. More is sometimes possible, but in that case it is often better to work with multiple Dungeon Masters so everyone gets enough attention and time to play.
Is there a minimum number of players?
No. D&D can even be played with 1 player and 1 Dungeon Master. For beginners, we usually recommend starting with at least 3 players, because that often feels the most comfortable and balanced.
Do we need to prepare anything ourselves?
Not much. We can bring premade characters, explain the rules, and bring game materials such as dice, character sheets, and where needed miniatures or game cards. You mostly just need a group and a suitable place to play.
Can we use our own characters?
Yes, you can. New players often choose from premade characters, but if you would rather bring your own character, that is completely fine.
Where do sessions usually take place?
Ideally, we play at your home, office, or another quiet location where everyone can sit around the table. Do you not have a suitable place? Then we are happy to help think of a solution, for example a suitable external venue.
Do you also play online?
Yes, we do. If online works better for your group, that is definitely something we can look at.
Do you also run sessions in English?
Yes. We can also run sessions in English. That is useful for international groups of friends, teams, or players who simply feel more comfortable in English.
Do you only do Dungeons & Dragons?
